ISO 9001:2015 Certification
ISO 9001 is a world recognized quality management standard that helps organisations to meet the expectations and needs of their customers. Quality is something the Fund strives for. The Fund aims at entrenching best practices in line with its Vision to be the best-in-class pension fund in Africa. By applying the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) is keen on continually improving its performance and delivery of services to the members.

The Fund first became ISO certified in April 2014 and was due for renewal of the ISO 9001:2008 certificate, which was to expire this year. The Fund however opted to pursue certification under the brand new standard, ISO 9001:2015. This new standard is a richer version of quality management system and in particular focuses on risk management and an expanded list of business’ stakeholders.

The Fund becomes the first pension fund in Kenya to attain ISO 9001:2015 certification. Achieving this level of certification demonstrates the Fund’s ability and desire to effectively implement and maintain a quality management system that assures continual improvement of internal processes and service delivery to members. The Fund is committed to inculcating a culture of enterprise risk management that is aimed at managing identified strategic and operational risks through a structured, proactive and integrated system.

African Investor Awards 2018

The Kenya Power Pension Fund (KPPF) was named the best Pension Fund in Africa after emerging the winner of the category, African Pension Fund Initiative of the Year in the recently-held Africa Investor (Ai) Capital Market & Index Series Awards in New York, USA. The Fund won the prestigious award, edging out a quality field of several Funds that included the previous year’s winner Natal Joint Municipal Pension Fund (South Africa), Government Employees Pension Fund (South Africa) which is Africa’s largest pension Fund, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (Ghana), National Social Security Fund (Uganda) among others.

The Africa Investor is a leading international investment and specialist communications firm, advising governments, international organizations and businesses on private sector investments and foreign direct investment in Africa. The Africa investor (Ai) hosts the Ai Capital Market & Index Series Awards to profile the African capital market success stories. The Awards are designed to recognize Africa’s best performing stock exchanges, listed companies, investment banks, regulators, investment managers and institutional investors such as sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies and pension funds.

Champions of Governance (COG) Awards 2016
The Kenya Power Pension Fund participated for the fifth time in the Champion of Governance (COG) Awards 2016 organized by ICPSK. In the 2016 Awards the Fund scooped the following awards.
In the 2016 Awards the Fund scooped the following awards;
• Winner in the Retirement Benefits Schemes Sector
• CEO of the Year Award was awarded to the Fund’s CEO and Trust Secretary, Henry Kyanda
• 1st runners up in the Overall Champions of Governance category
• Most Improved Organization Award

The COG Awards aims at promoting good governance practices by organizations through recognizing the practice of good governance in private and public sector entities, innovations in organizations that support good governance practices and encouraging private and public sector entities to focus on enhancement of good governance.

Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards 2016
The Fund participated in the Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards and it emerged as 2nd runners up in the Not for Profit category. The FiRe Award is an initiative of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and aims recognizing excellence in financial reporting, fostering sound corporate governance practices and enhancing corporate social responsibility and environmental reporting in East Africa.

Investments Awards 2016
The Fund participated for the third time in the Investment Awards 2016 organized by Think Business Limited. The objective of the Investment Awards is to encourage innovation and excellence in the Capital Markets by recognizing, awarding and celebrating exemplary performers in the securities exchanges and investment sectors in Kenya. The Fund emerged the Winner in the Public Entity Scheme of the year category. In addition, the Fund was also nominated for the overall occupational scheme of the year and emerged 2nd Runners up.

Property Management & Development
The Fund continues to enjoy appreciation in value from its properties, receive rental income as well as gain on sale of houses.

We own fully occupied commercial buildings like Stima Plaza and Umeme Plaza situated along Kolobot Road in Parklands and Naivasha road in Lavington area respectively. Stima Plaza is currently the headquarters of Kenya Power and it also hosts key tenants like banks, clinics and others.
To contribute further to shaping our members investments and future, we have also participated in the development of houses for commercial purposes. Notably, Runda Park estate which comprises 39 town houses on ½ acre plots was the pioneer project that was completed in the year 2012.The entire project has been sold to members of the public.
Currently we have also finished construction in Loresho approximately 11 kilometres West of Nairobi CBD. This gated community estate is known as Loresho Ridge and which constitutes 11 blocks of apartment with 67 apartments, 12 Villas, 15 type A town houses, 54 type B town houses, 13 type C Houses, a commercial centre comprising 4 two bedroom apartments, 4 shops, a swimming pool, changing rooms and a management office and kindergarten. A few units for sale are still remaining.

The DC Fund has developed Bogani Park in Karen which is a high end housing project which was completed in May 2017. Bogani Park is a premium residential development on Bogani Road in Karen consisting of 45 four and five bedroom luxury town houses set on individual half-acre plots. The development has been conceived as an ‘English Country Estate’ in its design, layout and aesthetic. There are 3 house types to meet a diverse market and provide a village characteristic to the project. Other facilities and services include; a clubhouse, swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms, gym, 24 hour manned gatehouse, secure perimeter, backup generators and an onsite borehole.

The DC Fund also own an undeveloped plot at Kirichwa Road in Milimani area, Nairobi.
